Is Spanish, Spanglish or English Spoken at Home?
Share
In many Hispanic homes it is about preserving Spanish as a way of preserving our culture and our roots.
Speaking in Spanish with our parents at home is in many cases the way to communicate and maintain that bond.
However, it is true that not all families decide to keep them.
Possibly the teenage children will try to speak in Spanglish and the younger ones will try to speak 100% in English.
I remember a friend's story, where her parents came from Mexico to the United States looking for better opportunities, but without speaking English
At the time in their jobs they were judged for not speaking English correctly.
For this reason, her parents, to prevent my friend from suffering in the future, decided to maintain communication in English, now my friend does not speak 100% in Spanish and being a Latin woman, she is criticized for not doing so.
In this case there is no “good” or “bad” way to do it.
For me, speaking in Spanish at home means that we are not only helping our children to be bilingual, but also so that they do not lose their roots, the communication link with their grandparents and many members of the rest of the family.
That's why I love that at ZUE we speak in Spanish, our entire team is trained to do so and in some way it is our way as a brand to honor Latin culture.
I'd love to hear how important this is to you. Do you like Spanish to be spoken at home? Do you prefer that they have 100% communication in English? Or do you like Spanglish to have a middle ground?
Leave your comments below telling us about your experience. I will be happy to read you.
I wish you a happy day!
